Our Story

T&T Custom Trim was established by Todd Taylor in July of 1980 in Cypress, TX. At just 18 years old and fresh out of high school, Todd started the company with the desire to make a living doing what he loves. He enjoyed the variety and ability to be creative and design things that pleased clients while also getting the opportunity to put his stamp on houses across the area. 

Before starting T&T, Todd didn’t have any formal training. He spent every summer in high school visiting various construction sites so that he could learn as much as possible in each field. He started off working on roofs, and quickly learned that was not his passion. He then tried his hand at exterior trim before moving on to interior trim, where he found his calling. Because of his perseverance and consistency, he was eventually hired full-time by a trim company. His dedication to the job allowed him to unofficially assume a management position, where he learned by trial and error how to be a successful manager. Through hands-on training Todd learned quickly and really loved excelling in his work. At the same time he was meeting with different builders and superintendents and forming important relationships, which he later realized would help him start T&T. 

After starting T&T, Todd began to realize that everything he did represented the company and he wanted the quality of his work to stand apart from the rest. He desired for his company to grow steadily and he recognized the importance of a strong base and reputation in the community. 

“We produce what we promise, and that’s the reputation that helps us to continue to grow today.”

Todd grew his business by making rounds to new communities, meeting with the construction managers and selling his company. He would make a deal with the managers to give his company one home to trim at their price and if they weren’t pleased with the work, they didn’t have to pay him. “That is what I used to generate more and more contracts, because every single builder that was looking for a trim company and gave us that opportunity, we obtained the contract from because they were pleased with our work.” 

With the support of his wife Anna, T&T continued to grow, which pushed Todd even more to provide for his wife and future family. “The number one person who had my back was Anna, she was my support and my cheerleader. She always had confidence in me which gave me more.” 

The company moved to Forney, TX in 1985 when the oil implosion in Houston caused construction to come to a halt. Due to his success in building and maintaining good relationships he already had a contract in place, and he was able to hit the ground running. 

T&T Custom Trim has grown a great deal in the past 40 years due to the perseverance and hard work of Todd and his motivation for the company to continually succeed. His son, Travis, is now an employee and enjoys the pleasure of working alongside his dad and helping to improve the company. Travis, much like his dad, loves the creativity and nature of his work. He is eager to continue the family name and company reputation. Todd’s goal for the future of T&T is “to continue to grow at a pace that allows us to maintain the level of quality that my clients expect and allows us to meet their needs."
